Today I will write about a magazine.
I am not a magazine kind of guy, nor do I consider myself a rabid consumer.
Dwell magazine is indeed a magazine. It also mostly features things you could buy, if you wanted to. I look forward to it every month the way a little girl looks forward to a pony ride. I squeal with glee when I pull it from my mailbox. Why do I like Dwell so much?
Everything in the magazine looks great. They have awesome photographers taking pictures of very interesting spaces, if you’re a visual person you can’t help being inspired. There is a focus on sustainable and attainable modern living. They discuss how design on a large scale is making our lives better or worse. While on the surface Dwell looks kind of like a Better Homes and Gardens for the modern design set, in reality it’s about how design can impact your life, in or outside your home.
Just like any magazine, there’s a lot of advertising you have to slog through, and yes, you do have to pay money for the magazine, but in my mind it’s the only design oriented magazine that isn’t completely overpriced and puts forth good content every single month. I find Dwell hugely inspirational. That alone is worth the 20 clams a year they charge for a subscription. If you’re really skint their website is also worth a look.
